—Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks) has joined District Attorney Matt Weintraub in expanding the Ben’s Campaign -- Lock it Up campaign to distribute free cable-style gun locks to anyone who wants one.
The program is named for Benjamin Austin Smith who at 2 years old accidentally shot himself with his father’s unsecured handgun.
“I believe this is one of the best ways to prevent future tragedies like the one that devastated the Smith family,” Polinchock said. “We all must do whatever can to make guns safer.”
The gun locks are available free at Polinchock’s office at 17 West Butler Ave. in Chalfont
Polinchock is also offering free pill bottle locks to prevent the accidental poisoning of children who get into their family’s medicines.
“According to the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, about 60,000 children across the country are rushed to emergency rooms every year because they got access to medicines,” Polinchock said.
The bottle locks are part of the Up and Away campaign designed to teach families how to protect kids from accidentally opening and ingesting potentially lethal prescriptions.
Like the gun locks, the pill bottle locks are available at Polinchock’s Chalfont office.
